Governor Drew Hughes has been notified that a meeting is planned at RIBI HQ Alcester next week to establish the best way forward for Rotary to face the flood crisis in England.
Following discussions with RIBI President Allan Jagger and others there is agreement that the original appeal for support for the North East of England should be converted into a national appeal. The four DGs of Districts 1060,1090,1100 and 1270 will meet next week to plan a way forward for Rotary's effort to support people in the affected districts.
The work of D1270 and their experience in tackling floods in their district will be used as the basis for the next step.
It is hopes that the scope of the appeal will be widened to become international involving Europe, North America and other developed parts of the Rotary world if possible.
DG Drew said, "It is clear the crisis is major and is affecting tens of thousands of households. The response from D1230 to the first appeal was excellent. When we have details of the next steps Rotary intends to take we will pass them on to you. In the meantime our thoughts are with those Districts who are serving their communities at this time."
