URGENT APPEAL
|
|
Source: Bob Tomlinson
Date: 10/07/07
Governor John Craike of District 1270 - the district taking the brunt of the flooding - wrote to Governor Drew Hughes with the following appeal.
Dear Drew,
My district has recently suffered a major natural disaster, which translates into damaged communities, homelessness, and damaged businesses, some of which will be months before they are operating normally. Some of the victims live in the country and some within villages, towns, or cities. Some are insured and some sadly are not.
As the days pass, it will become clearer where Rotary can do the most good.
District 1270’s intention is to generate a fund held at District level that can be called upon by those clubs working in the heart of the flood affected areas. A current estimate is that over half of our district’s 49 clubs are based within flood damaged areas.
Our most recent District level meeting called to discuss the crisis recognised that our best efforts will be community based, rather than targeting individuals. On this basis, I ask your district and clubs to urgently consider supporting our appeal for funds in order that we will be in a position to work through our clubs as needs are identified.
Yours sincerely,
John
